What does calmness look like in a dog?

It differs a bit with breed because humans have created some extreme facial characteristics and body types in breeds. Get to know your own dog well and identify what they look like when calm.

You're looking for a relaxed, peaceful body and mind. You'll see soft, loose, slow movements or relaxed stillness. The skin on the face should be smooth and the expression open. Eye focus will be soft. Often the eyes look a little almond shaped. There will be slow blinking. Breathing will be regular, quiet and easy. Ear carriage and jaw will be relaxed. The mouth may look smiley. The tongue is often held within the mouth.
